Jasper is the cautionary tale of what happens when your moat evaporates overnight. They built a $100M+ ARR business as a wrapper around GPT-3 — beautiful growth, great execution. Then OpenAI launched ChatGPT and suddenly everyone had access to the same underlying technology for free. Jasper's pivot to enterprise and "brand voice" differentiation is the right strategic move, but it requires rebuilding the business from scratch. The lesson is painful but important: if your product is a better interface to someone else's technology, you are one API update away from obsolescence. Jasper needed to build proprietary models or proprietary data from day one. They optimized for growth speed instead of moat depth.
