Ehsan's Growth Analysis
GitLab's radical transparency (their entire company handbook is public) is not a culture gimmick — it is a competitive strategy. When every process, every decision framework, and every salary band is public, recruiting becomes dramatically cheaper. Candidates self-select. The all-remote model, adopted years before COVID made it fashionable, gives them access to talent that Bay Area-only companies cannot reach. But the real strategic insight is the single-platform bet: GitLab decided early that the future was an all-in-one DevSecOps platform, not best-of-breed tools. At $580M ARR, the platform strategy is working for mid-market customers who want simplicity. Enterprise customers with strong opinions about individual tools remain harder to convert.
