Ehsan's Growth Analysis
Cursor achieved $40M+ ARR in roughly 18 months with a team of about 30 people. That is the kind of growth trajectory that makes venture capitalists physically uncomfortable because it suggests the company does not need their money. The product insight was simple but powerful: AI code generation works better inside an editor built for AI than when bolted onto an existing editor. VS Code compatibility (extensions, keybindings, settings) eliminated the switching cost. The AI-native UX (tab completion that feels like telepathy, multi-file edits, codebase-aware chat) created the switching incentive. The lesson for every SaaS company: when a paradigm shift happens (AI), the companies that rebuild from scratch beat the ones that retrofit.
